Mahakali Caves are group of 19 rock
cut monuments located in the western suburb of Andheri East.These are a
Buddhist monastery beautifully carved out of rocks.These caves are carved out
of solid basalt rock. They are also known as Viharas where monks used to stay.
But the cave no 9 of the south eastern group is a prayer hall.
The caves have images of Lord Buddha
engraved on them but they are not clearly visible as they have become
mutilated. The caves are located on a hill that overlooks this link road .
If you are somewhere in the
Mumbai, then you may catch a local train to get down at Andheri or Jogeshwari.
There are many options to reach Kondivita Caves / Mahakali Caves from
Andheri Station.
Best time to Visit: June to Feb (Best during Monsoon & Winters) , All seasons.
Entrance fee to Caves : 20 -30 Rs per head

there is a direct bus departing from Agarkar Chowk and arriving at Kondivita Caves/ Mahakali Caves. Services depart every 20 minutes, and operates every day.

To reach Kondivita Caves, also known as Mahakali Caves, from Mumbai city by road, you can follow these directions:
1. From Mumbai City :
- Start from Mumbai city center and head towards the Western Express Highway (WEH).
- Take the WEH and continue north towards Andheri.
- From Andheri, you can reach Kondivita Caves by following one of these routes:
2. Route 1: Via Andheri-Kurla Road:
- From Andheri, take the Andheri-Kurla Road (AK Road) towards Sakinaka and proceed towards Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
- Turn right onto the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road and continue until you reach Mahakali Caves Road.
- Turn left onto Mahakali Caves Road and continue until you reach the entrance of Kondivita Caves.
3. Route 2: Via Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR):
- From Andheri, take the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) towards Powai.
- Continue on JVLR until you reach the Western Express Highway (WEH).
- Cross the WEH and continue towards SEEPZ.
- Turn left onto Mahakali Caves Road and continue until you reach Kondivita Caves.
Both routes offer convenient access to Kondivita Caves from Mumbai city center. Choose the route that suits your location and traffic conditions. Once you reach Kondivita Caves, you can explore the ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
To reach Kondivita Caves, also known as Mahakali Caves, from Pune city by road, you can follow these directions:
1. From Pune City :
- Start from Pune city center and head towards the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
- Take the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and continue towards Mumbai.
- As you approach Mumbai, you'll eventually reach the outskirts of the city.
2. Enter Mumbai:
- Once you enter Mumbai, continue towards Andheri, a suburb in the western part of Mumbai.
3. Route from Andheri to Kondivita Caves:
- From Andheri, take the Western Express Highway (WEH) northbound towards Borivali.
- Exit the WEH at the point where Andheri-Kurla Road (AK Road) meets WEH.
- Turn right onto Andheri-Kurla Road (AK Road) and continue towards Sakinaka.
- Proceed towards Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
- Turn right onto Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road and continue until you reach Mahakali Caves Road.
- Turn left onto Mahakali Caves Road and continue until you reach the entrance of Kondivita Caves.
